I surmised that this was a bakery beloved by the community.
It was a mad-dash on a Sunday afternoon traveling from the Bronx to Brooklyn to visit Little Cupcake Bakeshop. I’d just finished a visit with my grandmother and wanted something sweet to bookend the day. Although I’d visited a few French bakeries the day prior, I was determined to have a cupcake.
After scanning online reviews, I decided to try the Little Cupcake Bakeshop. I later learned the owners – three brothers – opened four locations in New York City. With a bright neon light in the window, an abundance of seating for patrons, and an extended display case with cupcakes and cakes, I was eager to see all that this bakeshop had to offer. My Uber driver graciously waited while my kiddo and I jetted inside for food magic.
Plenty of Options
The bakery was established in 2005. With an assortment of cupcakes and cakes, and flavors galore, there is something for everyone. Once inside the vault of baked goods, I was impressed with the number of people seated and enjoying sweet treats. It was like a popular hangout that only the cool kids knew about. Not only was it crowded, but patrons appeared to be having a good time.
While there were far too many options to choose just one product, I tried the hostess cupcake. It was moist and flavorful without being overpowering. My daughter tried the vanilla cupcake with buttercream icing and sprinkles. It didn’t disappoint. A fan favorite is the Brooklyn Blackout Cake which was recognized by Food & Wine as the “Best Chocolate Cake in America.” In addition to baked goods, they offer non-GMO Illy espresso, organic tea, soft drinks and water.
What’s Unique About the Little Cupcake Bakeshop?
I sensed a strong desire to be a good neighbor, not just a good bakery. From an engaging social media presence, to the atmosphere inside the 30 Prince Street location, I surmised that this was a bakery beloved by the community. And I see why.
Health-conscious consumers would be pleased to know that the Little Cupcake Bakeshop says it uses organic food coloring made from flowers in some of their products. They note on their website that they source locally-grown food as much as possible.
