My Favorite Bakeries in Indianapolis…Thus Far
My Favorite Bakeries in Indianapolis…Thus Far
Around the holidays, I drove from Central Ohio to Carmel, Indianapolis. I made the three-hour drive to visit The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers. From its website and social media, I knew the bakery was special. But the web couldn’t possibly foreshadow what I was to find upon visiting.
The best way to describe the bakery is enchanting. It really feels like one is entering a castle. It is ornate and features larger than life-sized cakes, beautiful accents, and faux gold and diamond trim. It is likely the fanciest bakery I’ve ever visited.
Taylor’s Bakery
If you’re in the Indianapolis area and looking for phenomenal bakeries, I recommend my longtime favorites, Taylor’s Bakery and The Flying Cupcake Bakery. I’ve been visiting Taylor’s Bakery for over a decade and I’ve never had a bad experience. I typically go to the location in Fishers, Indiana; though they also have a shop on Allisonville Road in Indianapolis. I really, really love their cupcakes. They are moist and have an almond-flavored icing, at least it tastes like it has almond flavoring in it. The cupcakes are small but pack a punch. The sugar cookies are beautifully designed and amazing as well. Taylor’s also sells breads, quiche, Danishes, donuts, cakes and other sweet treats.
The Flying Cupcake Bakery
I also love The Flying Cupcake Bakery. I typically visit the location on 82nd Street in Indianapolis; although they have several locations around the city. BuzzFeed News referred to The Flying Cupcake Bakery as a “Top Sweet Cupcake to Eat Before You Die.” I couldn’t agree more. Their cupcakes are tasty, sweet and beautifully decorated — draws me in every time.
I will never forget the day I discovered The Flying Cupcake Bakery — I was in the area visiting my son, had stopped at a Chick-fil-A in the area, and had a yearning for something sweet. I thought I’d have to drive back over to Taylor’s — about 15 minutes away — when I stumbled upon the bakery. This was more than 10 years ago, and I haven’t forgotten the bakery since. The Flying Cupcake Bakery also has cool merchandise for sale. Their products make you stop and think and then smile.
The Cake Bake Shop
Today I had an opportunity to check out The Cake Bake Shop. I’d been hearing about the bakery for months, and had been angling to visit. Over the holidays, I drove three hours – from Central Ohio to Carmel, Indiana – for a visit. The best word to describe the bakery is enchanting. Upon entering, one really feels like, they’re entering a fairytale. The Cake Bake Shop is not just a bakery, as I originally assumed. It’s also a sit-down restaurant. I wish I’d known this before visiting so I could have made a reservation for me and my daughter. This detail aside, I was blown away by the intricate design of the bakery itself, the larger-than-life sized cakes, and the ambiance of the establishment.
I look forward to visiting these and other bakeries on future visits to Indianapolis. If you live in the area and know of bakeries I should visit, please drop me a line at thebestbakeriesin@gmail.com.
