AnnTremet’s creations boast meticulously curated seasonal ingredients and novel pairings…
I spent Mother’s Day weekend in New York City and my visit was absolutely divine. I enjoyed Mother’s Day brunch at Harry’s Table by Cipriani, was wowed by a standalone Alice and Olivia by Stacey Bendet store (I usually shop online), and the many amazing shops in Chelsea and the Upper West Side. Most meaningful, I spent time with my maternal grandmother, and a dear friend. Seeing them both flooded me with emotion. Of course, no trip would be complete without a visit to a local bakery or two. I stopped into a few French bakeries which were magical. But visiting Anntremet Cake was really special.
Anntremet is a play on the French word entremet, which means small, or bite-sized pastry art. It is literally dessert craftsmanship served between meals. Entremets offer an illusion and are beautiful to the eyes, appeasing to the senses and warm to the soul.
Pastry Arts Magazine described the bakery this way, “AnnTremet’s creations boast meticulously curated seasonal ingredients and novel pairings such as purple yam, lychee, passion fruit, black sesame, chestnut, yuzu, mango etc.”
A fusion of words and cuisines
With a play on the owner’s name Annabelle, the bakery is meant to echo the intention of entremets. It offers a fusion between Japanese and French cuisines. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Annabelle and Peixin Li in 2018, Anntremet specializes in indulgent, mirror glaze or mousse cakes with a shiny coating. They also offer a host of other treats with flair including sugar cookies and afternoon tea service.
Their products combine low sugar with fresh ingredients to produce fine desserts. “We use 50% of the sugar level compared to the average American bakery to highlight the amazing flavor of other ingredients,” a bakery brochure read.
