These Bakeries (Sift Cake and Cookies and Layers Bakeshop) Were a Delight.
I was in New York City for the TD Five Boro Bike Tour and of course wanted to try new bakeries. Shortly after arriving in New York, I found two that left me craving for more: Layers Bakeshop and Sift Cake and Cookies.
Sift Cake and Cookies
During a walk in the financial district in Manhattan, I stumbled upon Sift Cake and Cookies. It had a beautiful teal awning and an inviting décor. Nestled on a Manhattan street, I descended a small flight of stairs to access the bakery. It boasted earl grey madeleines, mini chocolate chip cookies, brown butter pecan sandies, pineapple tarts and so much more. This bakeshop also offers orange chiffon cookies, and earl grey chiffon cake, though they were sold out of the cake when I visited.
It seemed I got in early as the bakery recently opened a brick-and-mortar store in October 2024. It previously partnered with Poom, a shared storefront at the Oculus in the World Trade Center. The indie baker offers a rotating menu that is sure to please fans who favor splendid and creatively designed treats. The experience was unforgettable and if I had more time, I would have visited twice.
Layers Bakeshop
In addition to Sift, I also visited Layers Bakeshop in the financial district of New York City. They also have a location in Queens and will soon open a store in Brooklyn. They bakeshop offers decadent cakes, cupcakes, cake-like sundaes, brownies and jarred treats. I opted for an oreo, chocolate, cream and fudge treat neatly situated in a small plastic cup. It was phenomenal. My intention is usually to taste enough of a treat to enjoy it but not consume the entire calorie count. This was impossible to do as the cupped treat was absolutely delicious. Shortly after I began enjoying the treat, I discovered I’d practically eaten the whole thing. So much for intentions.
If you’re in Manhattan and looking to indulge a sweet tooth, I highly recommend Layers Bakeshop and Sift Cake and Cookies.
