Over my daughter’s spring break, we spent time in the Phoenix metropolitan area. I always enjoy visiting the region, but this trip was extra special. Not only did we enjoy a temporary reprieve from the cold weather in Ohio, but we explored several parts of the city, caught up with friends and family, and scouted several local bakeries. Although our schedule was activity-packed, this city has so many bakeries that we visited several. The first bakery we visited upon arriving in Arizona was the Urban Cookies Bakeshop. It easily made our list of one of the best bakeries in Phoenix.
Gourmet and Delectable
This business boasts so many delectable offerings (including cupcakes, decadent brownies, chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodle cookies, and pastries) that it was hard to choose just one. Although the cupcakes were beautifully decorated, and I’m sure thoroughly pleasing, I opted instead for what turned out to be a moist and flavorful double-chocolate brownie and a snickerdoodle. I made a wonderful decision as the treats were scrumptious.
Story of Origin
Founded in 2005 by Brady and Shaun, a husband-and-wife team, Urban Cookies opened using the kitchen of Florence Crittenton. Their goal was to unite simplicity, quality and all natural ingredients. More than a bakery, this business is committed to social responsibility and the commitment is woven through everything they do. They continue to support Florence Crittenton’s work with donations, fundraisers, and in-kind gifts of cookies and treats. Urban Cookies says that they have provided job training and mentorship to clients from organizations such as Good Will of Central Arizona and Southwest Autism Resource and Research Center. They provide internships to culinary students across their region.
Stronger Together
Urban Cookies has weathered many storms including, according to their website, a forced relocation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the financial crisis. Through it all, they believe the company and community is “Stronger Together.” As such, they work hard to continually grow, support the community, and serve the highest quality in baked goods.
Plan Your Visit
The bakeshop boasts a beautiful space adorned with what looks like cherry brown wood, soft lighting and modern facilities. Cozy and quaint, Urban Cookies has two locations in the region, including one in Phoenix at 2325 N. 7th Street and one in Scottsdale at 8776 E. Shea Blvd, Suite 108.
If you live in the region, and haven’t already visited, trust me friends, it’s time. If you’re traveling to or through Phoenix, be sure to make time to stop in for a visit.
