For over a decade, Baked & Wired has been all the rage. I understand why.
Nestled along Thomas Jefferson Street NW in Georgeton, Baked & Wired boasts a wide assortment of muffins, cupcakes, cookies, chocolate, and coffee. Their bakery counter is filled with goodness that looks fresh, appetizing and inviting.
While I enjoyed muffins from this business years ago, during a recent trip to Washington, D.C. I made a point to stop in and see their latest offerings.
Flavorful and Delicious
I enjoyed a large vanilla cupcake that was moist, delicious and flavorful. Although I vowed that I wouldn’t over-indulge, I was drawn to a fabulous rice crispy treat and miniature butter cookies. The ‘butter spritzers,’ as the cookies are called, were phenomenal even if they were costly. I was literally standing at the counter debating how many I should purchase without lapsing into gluttony. Fortunately for me (and my waistline) I limited my purchase.
Assortment of Beverages
In addition to their baked goods, this family-owned bakery’s selection of beverages is quite vast. It offers hand-steamed chocolate chip cookies over its hot chocolate. Yum! It also offers coffee, with its website noting that “each cup is hand-crafted by professional baristas who are just as enthusiastic as they are knowledgeable about coffee.” They rotate through a selection of espressos including Intelligentsia, Mountain Air, Café Integral, Barismo, and Elixr.
Want a seasonal offering? Every two weeks they update their menu and share new options to give you liquid fuel for the day.
What’s Special About This Place?
I appreciate that Baked & Wired offers in-store seating and merchandise that is suitable for gifts. This business is cozy yet still has space for meeting up with a friend, working remotely, or simply pausing to celebrate life. I love the art that accents the walls. It is colorful and vibrant.
Entering this hole in the wall establishment gives one the feeling that you are being allowed to enter in a space that could easily be reserved for the cool kids. I’m guessing Baked & Wired is quite popular too, because snagging parking near the bakery is always an adventure. There is frequently a line extending out the door. Although I visit D.C. several times a year, each time I pass this business, it is always busy.
Final point. I travel the nation visiting bakeries large and small. I can confidently say this business is worth a visit and multiple return visits.
