I enjoy visiting bakeries when I travel. I get a kick out of discovering new local bakeries, the neighbors who celebrate them.
This year, I traveled a ton and visited a host of amazing bakeries. Here are 5 that made me smile.
Back Door Donuts
My number one bakery of 2024 was the Martha’s Vineyard location of Back Door Donuts. The baked goods were irresistible, but the bakery’s extended hours made visiting the establishment even more enjoyable.
The front of the bakery is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and patrons can show up at the back door to purchase sweet treats from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. The flexible hours allow the bakery to serve up sweet treats at almost all hours of the day.
I wish there were a Back Door Donuts near me. Until there is, I’ll have to fantasize about this amazing bakery with a cool business model. I highly recommend this bakery.
Beg Bakery & Creamery
I also loved Beg Bakery & Creamery in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was worth every calorie I consumed. I loved this bakery’s products, its amazing and energetic owner, and its physical establishment. I aspire to have her energy and passion for her small business. Best of all, this creamery offers vegan and gluten-free options without compromising on taste or desirability. The Best Bakeries In Blog highly recommends this gem of a bakery.
Lily’s Chocolate & Coffee
This bakery was everything. Founded by Iranian immigrants, the bakery offered Iraqi sweet treats. But they also offer amazing chocolate cake. As a chocolate lover, any establishment with chocolate in its name is worth a try. Lily’s Chocolate & Coffee didn’t disappoint. Their decadent chocolate cake was irresistible. But the environment sealed the deal. This was a place I could sit and take in the sights, while journaling and enjoying life. The Best Bakeries In Blog highly recommends this fabulous bakery.
Lady Camelia by the Waterfront
If you enjoy tea, fancy tea service, and waterfront views, you will absolutely love Lady Camelia Tea House. This was by far my favorite tea house of 2024. Situated in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, the tea room is parallel to the Potomac River at 229 Strand Street. Previously located in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., the new location is cozy, elegant and inviting. Dining at this beautiful establishment gives one the feeling they are really living. The Best Bakeries In Blog highly recommends this luxurious tea shop.
La Pâtisserie Chouquette
I visited St. Louis briefly in November 2024, I asked several natives their thoughts on the best bakeries in the area. But it was Chef David Kirkland’s recommendation that sealed the deal. Kirkland owns the healthy eatery Turn. After dining at Turn, and enjoying the experience, my colleague and I enthusiastically accepted his suggestion and jetted over to La Pâtisserie Chouquette Par Simone Faure. This bakery was heaven on earth. It offered all the accoutrements of France but from the Midwest. The Best Bakeries In Blog highly recommends Chouquette today and every day.
