I have a confession. The first time I heard about Pattycake Bakery, I didn’t believe a vegan bakery could offer delectable, sweet goods. I was wrong. Pattycake has become one of my favorite bakeries because they offer a wonderful product with intention and care.
At the beginning of 2024, I set a goal to truly explore vegan bakeries. I traveled near and far to find some of the best vegan bakeries around. While I was thoroughly impressed with vegan bakeries in Phoenix, a local treasure blew my mind.
Pattycake Bakery, nestled in the heart of Clintonville, has been baking up sweet treats for 21 years. They promise products that are primarily organic, vegan and natural. Handcrafted with love, I’ve tried the bakery’s Lavender chocolate cake, the ghost-themed cookies, and the Oreo chocolate cake. If you love cakes, Pattycake has several options for you to consider: ready to go, specialty, and wedding cakes. Their products are handcrafted with love, and it shows.
They Sell Cookies Too
I like different bakeries for different things. Although I prefer their light and airy, flavorful cakes, they sell a wide selection of cookies as well. Their cookies are award-winning. For instance, its classic Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie was named the best in all of Ohio by Loveland Magazine.
What’s Special About This Place?
In addition to delectable treats, I admire the fact that Pattycake Bakery is a worker owned cooperative. This means the company is jointly owned by its employees. The cooperative boasts on its website that it “strives to create a democratic workplace where all workers have agency and are treated with dignity and respect.” How cool!
Pattycake Bakery is that they are environmentally conscious. Their plant-based products reduce their organizational footprint and consumption. They also use locally-sourced pie ingredients and opt for bicycle delivery to and from their wholesale locations. At a time when the world is experiencing increasing weather emergencies and catastrophic events, we all have a role to play in protecting mother earth.
