Resch’s Bakery is reliably fabulous. It was established in 1912 and has been in the family since that time. While it offers a host of sweet treats, the cakes are bar none. In fact, if you order a cake from Resch’s, the cake will be the centerpiece of your event. You are bound to receive tons of “who made your cake?” and, “can you share their information?” From the batter to the buttercream icing, everything they make is a cut above the rest. Additionally, their price point is reasonable. I never feel like I’m being extorted at the counter.
They offer everything from breads to cookies to cakes to donuts. And please know their donuts come with plenty of variety – glazed, bow tie, cream-filled, sugar cake donut, twist, apple fritter, etc.
What I appreciate about Resch’s is that you always know what to expect. You never have to wonder if the bakers are having a good or bad day, because their products are consistently stellar. The cookies are enticingly good. The cakes are phenomenal. But it’s also the little things that make this bakery stand out. For instance, I appreciate that the bakery has been nestled inside of the community in East Columbus, for over 100 years. It employs people from the surrounding community and that is also heartwarming. Additionally, when you enter the bakery, you pull a ticket from a red box, and wait for your number to be called. This is the only bakery I’ve frequented that has this arrangement. Finally, I appreciate that the cakes last. One year when I was living in Virginia I came to Columbus for a visit and picked up a cake from Resch’s and took it back with me on the plane. From there I put the cake in the freezer. It lasted beautifully. In fact, this has been a consistent experience. I’ve been frequenting this bakery off and on for over 25 years. I have never had a bad cake, a bad donut, or a bad treat. They have never been off. That says a lot for a company that has existed for decades.
